Participate in Survey on Impact of Registry

Dr. Danielle J.S. Bailey, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at Tyler and her colleague, Dr. Jennifer Klein, are working on a research project that examines the impact of the sex offender registry on registered citizens’ employment experiences and overall economic situations.

To collect data, they are using a survey questionnaire that asks about specific economic and employment related factors. The current understanding of the economic impact of the sex offender registry is very limited, with most research using simple yes/no questions about job loss, promotion denial, etc. This survey is much more in depth, collecting a variety of indicators of economic status that will help give us a more clear picture of the impact of registries on registered citizens and their families. They are focusing primarily on three time periods – prior to conviction, immediately following conviction/registration, and presently. The survey will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. At the end of the survey, they do ask that participants upload a copy of their most recent resume (if available). They do not need to include any identifying information (name, address, telephone, etc.), and if there are identifiers present in the uploaded documents they will remove them before data analysis.

We prefer that the survey be completed electronically, but we acknowledge that there are some citizens with Internet restrictions and may need paper surveys. Download a hard-copy survey by clicking here. The return address is included on the PDF.
